- Shahrazad Ali
Shahrazad Ali (born
April 27 ,1954 , inBrooklyn, New York , USA) is anAfrican-American author, responsible for books such as "The Blackman’s Guide to Understanding the Blackwoman" ["sic"] , "Are You Still a Slave?" and "How Not to Eat Pork (Or Life without the Pig)", all of which are heavily influenced by her belief inFaradian Islam and membership in theNation of Islam , which owns Civilized Publications, the company that publishes her books. She is at the forefront of what scholars call reactionaryBlack nationalism and has come under heavy criticism for her scholarship, despite flaunting her insight and research into human relationships, and her belief that a man has the right to discipline a woman—going as far as slapping her on the mouth—no matter how strong or liberated she is. Ali has appeared on many talk shows in the United States, where she defends her beliefs and her controversial books.elected bibliography
