Released in 1967, "The Hollies' Greatest Hits" was the first "greatest hits" collection by The Hollies. This was released a year before Parlophone issued its own hits album in England and six years before Epic issued another album with this title. When Imperial was dissolved into United Artists Records in 1971, this album went out of print, prompting Epic (the group's then-current label) to issue its own "Greatest Hits" album two years later.

Like many US albums by British artists issued in the mid-1960s, this featured a mix of true stereo and "fake stereo" tracks, even though true stereo masters existed for all the songs in this album.

Capitol Records, the owner of the Imperial catalog, has not issued this album on CD; however, the songs are easily obtainable on any number of compilations.
