website_name =Hilltop Primary School is a maintained
primary school for pupils aged 4 to 11. It currently caters for around 280 pupils. It was opened in September 2004 following the closure of predecessors, Southgate West First and Southgate West Middle Schools.History
The first school opened in the newly-built western section of the Southgate neighbourhood was the Southgate West County First School opening in 1969, offering education for young children in the neighbourhood. Work had already begun on the adjoining school, Southgate West County Middle School, which opened in the same building in 1970.cite book | title= A History of the County of Sussex: Volume 6 Part 3| url=http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=18425| last=Hudson| first=T.P. The two schools ran as separate entities, feeding into
Thomas Bennett Community College until 2004. However, the change of age of transfer in Crawley in2004 led to the schools both being closed. The new Hilltop Primary School opened on the site, with a headteacher taking responsibility for the full range of primary-aged pupils.Cite web|url=http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/cs/mis/070502eda21.pdf|title=Crawley School Age of Transfer Report|accessdate=2007-07-25|publisher=West Sussex County Council|year=2002|author=Director of Education and the Arts|format=PDF]chool Site
