post-rock band fromBangalore was formed in 2005, and they hit the local music scene with a unique sound that could only be called their own. Ambient soundscapes combined with guitar distortion are layered on top of a tight rhythm section consisting of drums and bass. The focus is on song-writing and sound textures. Some call italternative rock , some call it ambient, and some call it spiritual.Concerts
A typical concert would consist of an almost exclusively original set which includes several of their own songs - fast gaining cult popularity, arresting
visual effects , and some ethereal jams with guest artists varying fromdidgeridoo players to djembe players. And maybe even a couple of unexpected covers. In recent times Lounge Piranha has been rapidly gaining popularity with some high profile shows around the city (see performances below). From being voted as one of Bangalore's top three bands in the
Radio City Live poll in Mar 06 to opening theVh1 Rock Rules show featuringTaxiride in Jun 06, the band has come a long way since its conception. While enjoying the bright lights and the big audiences the band also continues to moonlight the smaller stages with packed shows at pubs and clubs around the city. They won the Indian TFA award in early 2007 and recorded a demo in late 2006, the band is now gigging at other venues around the country.The band also has an album coming up, expected later this year.Members
George Mathen is an artist by day and fully in control of the drum kit by night. He is also fully irresponsible for Piranha's visual identity.
Rohan Ramesh, current medical student and future quack, takes care of the bottom end with proficiency on his Warwick bass guitar.
Kamal Singh on guitar and vocals, uses lots of alternate tuning and open strings, and hits the grunge situation with alarming analysis and strategic technology
Abhijeet Tambe on guitar and vocals emerges from the tangle of the electronic loops in his studio to provide the ambient soundscapes with lots of guitar delay and reverb.
Pervez Rajan plays the
didgeridoo , is the official photographer and provides information about the band.Archana Prasad off NID, provides the visual part of the Piranha live experience with lights and projections.

Vh1 Rock Rules withTaxiride , Palace Grounds,Bangalore in June 2006. They have also featured at a local Radio Station (Radio City ) Live at the Palace Grounds, Bangalore in March 2006.
