Amsterdamse Toneelschool & Kleinkunstacademie

The Amsterdamse Toneelschool & Kleinkunstacademie (Amsterdam Theatre School and Kleinkunst Academy) was formed on 1 January 2001 after a merger of these two institutions, and is part of the Amsterdam College for the Arts (Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, or AHK).

It is runs four year Bachelor's degree courses, intended for new stage, film, cabaret and musical actors. The staff of instructors and guest instructors amounts to about sixty persons, nearly all also in active in the theatrical field.

Theatre School

The Amsterdam theatre school was set up in 1874 and was at first established in the Marnixstraat 150. There Anna Sablariolles was registered as first pupil, and Maria Gartman as one of its first instructors.

Alumni include: Joop Admiraal, Josine van Dalsum, Rutger Hauer, Jeroen Krabbé, Petra Laseur, Ank van der Moer, Willem Nijholt, Ramses Shaffy, Henk van Ulsen.

Academy

The Academie voor Kleinkunst (or Kleinkunstacademie) was set up in 1960 by Boris Blom. Alumni include:
*Acda en de Munnik
*Karin Bloemen
*Carice van Houten
*Kasper van Kooten
*Martine Sandifort
*Rutger de Bekker, Diederik Ebbinge and Remko Vrijdag (better known as De Vliegende Panters).
*Javier Guzman

Youp van 't Hek was expelled during his introductory period at the school because he already wanted to go give performances to in his birthplace.
