Lambir National Park

Lambir National Park

Lambir National Park (or Lambir Hills National Park) is situated about 25km from Miri in Sarawak, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. It is a small but important park, composed largely of mixed dipterocarp forest. A census of all trees in a 52 hectare plot found 1175 different species. The forest has many birds and small mammal species, but large mammals such as gibbon and sun bear are absent or very rare due to the size of the forest and illegal hunting.

There is talk that this National Park holds the greatest variety of plants in the world. A walk along the trail from the entrance to the Latak Waterfall, shows an introduction to this statement. Some of the outstanding plants have been labelled.

Tourists from all over the world visit the park to view its encaptivating flora, take a dip in one of the few waterfalls or hike on of of the many hiking trails.

The park is open to visitors from 8am in the morning. A nominal entrance fee is charged. For those who wish to stay the night, there are beautiful wooden chalets at the park.
