Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli, a constituent college of Anna University,is a DOTE approved educational institution in Tamil Nadu. It has been etablished in the year 1981. The college isspread on an area of 23 hectares.Fact|date=July 2008 The institution offers five undergraduate and three postgraduate programmes. The curriculum has been structured by Anna University.

Curriculum

Undergraduate courses include: Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

Postgraduate courses include: Computer Science and Engineering, Engineering Design, Power Electronics and Drives.

Library

The library has a collection of over 40,000 titlesFact|date=July 2008 and maintains about 75 journals monthly.The library includes a collection of many engineering documents suchas government publications and technical reports.Each department has its own library.There are also two book banks, one with a collection of 6500 exclusively for SC/ST students and another, a general book bank.

Achievements

The college has twice secured seventh position in the rank list of 229 colleges released by Anna University after the announcement of semester results.Fact|date=July 2008

These College have bagged up laurrels in Many of the Cultural festivals. It stood first in Tamil Association compettions held by REC Trichy as part of Festember.

Literary and Debating Society

A literary and debating society has taken shape under the auspices of the Department of English & Humanities.

Hostels

Nearly 900 students are provided residential accommodation. Three hostels cater to the needs of malestudents and female students are accommodated in two hostels. All the hostels offer a centralgymnasium and a stadium for indoor and outdoor games.

Chemistry

Analytical and applied chemistry and forms an integral part of the first year curriculum. Some of the research equipments available are: B.O.D., Photo calorimeter, Water and soil analysis kit, Muffle furnace
