James Walter Elder (
October 5 ,1882 -December 16 ,1941 ) was aUnited States Representative fromLouisiana . He was born inGrand Prairie, Texas . He attended the public schools, andBaylor University ,Waco, Texas 1895-1901. Later, he studiedlaw , was admitted to the bar in 1903, and commenced practice inFarmerville, Louisiana .Elder served as mayor of Farmerville, Louisiana before he moved to
Monroe, Louisiana and continued the practice of his profession. He was a member of theLouisiana Senate 1908-1912 and was elected as a Democrat to theSixty-third Congress (March 4, 1913-March 3, 1915). He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1914.After leaving Congress, Elder returned to the practice of law in Farmerville, Louisiana until January 1, 1925. He moved to
Ruston, Louisiana and continued the practice of law until his death on December 16, 1941. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery.References
