They only reproduce sexually as medusa, never formingpolyp sSchuchert (2005)] . It is not known with certainty whether the group as delimited here is indeedmonophyletic .Predominatly living in the deep open
ocean s, they are small medusae withhemispherical to heightened bells that have a smooth and straight margin of thick tissue with amplenematocyst s. They have 4, 6, 8 or moreradial canal s, with 8 being most common. Thegonad s are borne at the radial canals or where these meet themanubrium . Thestatocyst s are of mixed tissue from bothendoderm andectoderm . Thircnidome can includestenotele s.Families:
