Toll Dispute

The residents of Bandar Mahkota Cheras is caught in the middle of a right-of-way tussle between Cheras-Kajang Expressway concessionaire Grand Saga Sdn Bhd and Bandar Makhota Cheras (BMC) developer Narajaya Sdn Bhd. Recently, the long-suffering residents dismantled the barricades erected by Grand Saga barring them use of a shorter and toll-free route into their housing area. The residents have been protesting against the placing of concrete barriers at the entrance of the housing estate from the Cheras-Kajang Expressway. Five police reports were lodged, three of which were from the injured newsmen. Of the five victims, two suffered severe injuries to the head and arms. The next day on 28 May, 2008 the residents return to tear down the barricade. This time they were allowed to do so with the presence of the police.
