The Collective, Inc. was a video game development company located in Newport Beach, California. The company has created several games based on movies and television shows since its founding in 1997.

History

It was founded by three former Virgin Interactive employees, Douglas Hare, Gary Priest, and Richard Hare, in 1997. The company's first projects were to port "Men in Black" and "The Game of Life" Windows games to the PlayStation game console.

The developer predominantly works on titles licensed from movies and TV. The Collective created their own game engine called Slayer that they used for Buffy, Indiana Jones, and other projects. As of 2004, the company has grown to 90 employees.

On March 29, 2005, it was announced that The Collective had merged with Backbone Entertainment to form a new company, Foundation 9 Entertainment.

As of 2007, Foundation 9 Entertainment merged The Collective with Shiny Entertainment to create Double Helix Games.
