Biography

[http://www.reneavilesfabila.com.mx Avilés Fabila] was born on November the 15th of 1940 in Mexico City.

Obtained the degree in International Relations and made posgraduate studies in the University of Paris. In his more than forty years of literary, educational and journalistic work, has obtained diverse prizes and recognitions. In 1991 the Mexican Republic Government granted him the National Prize of Journalism by diffusion of the culture. Also diverse institutions like the Club of Journalists have granted him national prizes. In 1972 the House of the Américas, Havana, Cuba, granted the one of its recognitions to the story book The disappearance of Hollywood and in 1997, the Mexican National Institute of Beauty Arts and Literature and the state of Colima gave him the Prize for the best book of published narrative, by his work [http://www.reneavilesfabila.com.mx/Los%20animales%20prodigiosos.htm "Prodigious Animals"] ; work that was prologated by Rubén Bonifaz Nuño poet and illustrated by Jose Luis Cuevas.

It is worth the trouble to emphasize the tributes that were carried out to celebrate his 25, 30 and 40 years of literary activity. His work like academic and directive positions in public universities like National Autonomous University of Mexico (NAUM) and Metropolitan Autonomous University (MAU) ever have been related with Culture and Art. He has been educational of the Faculty of Political Sciences of the NAUM since 1975 and professor of career in the MAU-Xochimilco unit.

Among his diverse positions in the cultural area, [http://www.reneavilesfabila.com.mx Avilés Fabila] has been: Head of Information of the Organizing Committee of XX the Olympic Games, under the direction of Rafael Solana (1967-1968), Publication Director of the National Institute of Mexican Youth (1967-1968), Assistant director of Public Relations of the ECF(1974-1975), General Director of Cultural Diffusion of the NAUM (1984-1986), Cultural Adviser and Director of Governmental Edition the Internal Committee of the Department of the Federal District, Director of the Center of Writers “Juan Jose Arreola” of the Lamm House from 1989, and during the period 1998-2002, Coordinating one of University Extension of MAU-Xochimilco. From 1996 is member of the European Society of Culture (Venice), whose honorary president, until his death, was Norberto Bobbio. He has offered many conferences in diverse national and foreign universities like the NAUM, the MAU, Latin American University of Yale, University of Kansas, University of Paris and UCLA, among others.

In journalism, from 1962, [http://www.reneavilesfabila.com.mx Avilés Fabila] has collaborated in diverse newspapers of national circulation: El Día, El Universal, El Nacional, Excélsior, Diario de México. He was one of the founders of Unomásuno. At the moment he is editorialist of Excélsior, newspaper in which was director of its cultural section (1984-1986) and founded the cultural supplement El Búho (1985-1999). From 2004 to 2005, was Director of Magazine of Magazines, publication dean of Mexico, founded on 1910.

For more than ten years he had own programs in the Mexican Institute of the Radio and in the XEW station, all of them cultural ones and in special of Literature. On 1999 created and conducts the cultural magazine [http://www.reneavilesfabila.com.mx/universodeelbuho/index.htm Universe of The Owl (Universo de El Búho)] , that today has more than eighty numbers.

In 2003 was born [http://www.fundacionraf.com René Avilés Fabila Cultural Foundation] , private organism that contributes national and internationally with the culture and arts, mainly difunding the Mexican literary patrimonium.
