Metny

Metny

METNY is an acronym for the Metropolitan New York Region of United Synagogue Youth, or USY. METNY encompasses Long Island, New York City, Rockland County, Westchester County, Putnam and Orange Counties. Although it is noted as one of the smallest of the seventeen regions of USY geographically, it is also very well known for having more members than most other regions. Because of such a large population, METNY is the only region to have actively governed sub-divisions.

Regional Events

Encampment: A 9 day camp-like setting taking place at the end of August sometimes into early September. This is considered the kickoff event of the new yearly cycle.

Mid-Winter Kallah: A mid school year convention usually held in February

Regional Convention: A convention taking place at the end of the fiscal year in mid May. At the regional convention, New officers are elected for regional and divisional executive boards. At the end of the convention, the graduating high school class is discharged from the region as incoming freshman are inducted as USYers.

Other events

Each of the four divisions have two miniature conventions named Kinnusim per year. There is one Kinnus in the fall and there is one in the spring. Members from any division in METNY are invited to attend divisional Kinnusim.
