Jim Balent is an American comic book illustrator from Pennsylvania. He is perhaps best known for his long run on "Catwoman" between 1993 and 1999. Balent has also drawn "Batman" and "Lobo" for DC Comics, as well as some of the issues of "Purgatori" for the independent comic publisher Chaos! Comics. Balent usually draws women with extremely large breasts. Increasingly, he has drawn the majority of his women completely naked.

In 1999, Balent left mainstream comics to form his own company, BroadSword Comics, which publishes "." Balent writes and draws Tarot himself. In an interview with comic book website, Project Fanboy, Balent spoke of his interest in both entertaining as well as educating his readers about the folklore and actual theology of Wicca and Witchcraft with interviews with leading Witch authors and spells from Witches around the world. Broadsword Comics also reprinted "Vampfire", which was created, written and drawn by Balent's wife Holly Golightly (also known as Fauve) who is currently also the colorist on "Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose". She also served as the model for Tarot herself.

BroadSword also produces new titles like "3 Little Kittens" and Holly's "School Bites".
