V Capri

"V Capri" were a new wave band from Perth, Western Australia fronted by Tod Johnston. The band had six Top 100 singles in the Australian Charts between April 1985 and June 1987.

History

Their debut (and only album), "In My World", was released in 1986. It reached number 52 on the Australian charts (The Kent Music Report) in October 1986 [David Kent, "Australian Chart Book 1970-1992" (1993) [ISBN 0-646-11917-6] ] . The single "Haunting Me" became an international success when used in the Australian television soap opera Neighbours at the end of Kylie Minogue’s final episode. Being interviewed in 2003 on Australian Music Online, Malcolm Clark (The Sleepy Jackson) remembers V Capri:cquote|"What, where and when was the first local gig you attended?:The first show I went to was a band called "V-Capri" in the mid '80s, who used to play at a venue called the Nookenburra in Innaloo (Perth). I was eight-years-old and I used to hang out there on Saturday afternoons while my dad watched the jazz band next door.:One night my dad took me there and the roadies snuck me in the side-door as children weren’t allowed in the venue. It was amazing to watch a real live band, wow. It’s funny now because the lead singer (Todd Johnston) does the weather on TV. I wonder if he’d remember me? "In My World" was re-issued by Almacantar Records (a record label which specialises in 1980's releases) in the United States in 2006.
