Kudianmala

Kudianmala (also spelt Kudiyanmala) is a village in the Western Ghats in India. It is one of the major centres of Syrian Christian migration (Malabar migration). The migration to this place started during the 1950s. Even before that there were inhabitants here.

The name has a history behind it. The ruler of the Chirakkal Principality had a sister. She was accused of adultary. So, the ruler sent her and a set of servants to a place in Kudianmala with the name Kudiattivalappu, which is near Pottamplavu. After this, every 12 years Vyazhavattam, the ruler, used to send soldiers to kill the sons of the princess if any were born during this period. From this legend, the name Kudianmala was derived.

Migration to this place started in 1953. The Second World War created poverty in Travenocre and this caused the migration. Central Travencore especially Kottayam district was the focus of migration. The first families that came to this wonderful land were Kudakkachira Family,Eruppakkattu Family,Palackal Family,Perumpuzha Family,Thellyil Family,Podimattam Family,Padavil Family,Vempala Family,Kappil Family etcAmong those migrated from Trichur and surrounding places wereThottumkara Family,Kandathil Family,Thettayil Family,Valloran Family.Among those migrated from Thodupuzha and surrounding places wereManchappallil Family
