SS Kaiserin Auguste Victoria

SS Kaiserin Auguste Victoria

SS. "Kaiserin Auguste Victoria" was a German luxury liner built in 1905 by Vulcan at Stettin. Although some sources say that the ship was originally intended to be named "Europa", she was the largest passenger ship in the world when she was launched on August 29, 1905 and held the record until 1907 when she was succeeded by Cunard's RMS|Lusitania.

The "K. A. Auguste Victoria" set sail from Hamburg to New York on her maiden voyage on May 10, 1906 under the command of Captain Hans Ruser.

As World War I broke out in Europe, the ship was laid up in Hamburg in August 1914. After the War had ended, the "Kaiserin Auguste Victoria" was handed over to Great Britain and then chartered to the US Shipping Board. The ship made five crossings between France and the United States, bringing troops home from the war.

The "K. A. Victoria" was decommissioned in 1919 and sold to Cunard Line in 1920, she went back into passenger service and sailed between Liverpool and New York although her life with Cunard would be short lived.

On May 13, 1921, the "Kaiserin Auguste Victoria" was sold to Canadian Pacific Railway Co. and renamed "Empress of Scotland". The Ship underwent an extensive refitting shortly thereafter and converted to oil.The next year she began sailing between New York, Southampton and Quebec.

After being sold in December 1930, The "Kaiserin Auguste Victoria" burnt completely out and sank.
