Raunchy is a Industrial metal band combining elements from thrash metal, industrial metal, Melodic Death Metal and metalcore (popularly called Futuristic Hybrid Metal). This Danish band was formed in 1994, and has had four official releases since then. Merging a thick, beefy, electronics-aided metal sound (so far produced by Jacob Hansen) with melodic touches, their breakthrough came in 2002, when they were the first Danish metal band signed to Nuclear Blast Records.

Biography

The three youngsters Jesper Tilsted, Jesper Kvist and Morten Toft Hansen start jamming together. The style is mostly cover songs by Metallica and Slayer and in general music influenced by the Bay-Area scene.

Lars Vognstrup and Lars Christensen join the band. The band decides to call themselves RAUNCHY and starts working their own material.

Raunchy records their first demo at Borsing Recordings in Århus. The song »Space Story« taken from the demo is later released on the compilation CD »Extremity Rising vol. 1«

Raunchy achieves a second place in a music competition with 130 participating bands. A part of the prize is three days in a studio, which the band uses to record their second demo. The song »Crack of Dawn« is later released on »Extremity Rising vol. 3«

After almost two years with gigs and song-writing Raunchy decides to enter the Aabenraa Studios with Jacob Hansen (Invocator), feeling that his production will be a perfect match to their futuristic sound universe. Soon the band's third demo is a reality. For the third time the band appears on »Extremity Rising« with the song »Leech«, which is given a good response in several metal magazines. The members of the band move to Copenhagen and Århus.

Raunchy is contacted by the Danish radio P3, who interviews the band and tests the song »Hypnotized« on the radio show »Demokræmen«. Despite the hardness of the song it achieves enough votes to enter the list where it remains for several weeks.

Raunchy signs a record deal with Mighty Music's sub label Drug(s). A few months later Raunchy enters the Aabenraa Studio with producer Jacob Hansen to record »Velvet Noise«. After finishing the album the band is extremely satisfied with the result and Jacob Hansen states »It is the best album, I have ever produced«.

»Velvet Noise« is released in Scandinavia. The album is very well received by the press and is mentioned in quotes such as »Raunchy is the beginning of a new era in modern heavy metal«, »One of the best Danish debuts EVER« and »Forget about the latest hype-neo-metal band from L.A. …bow down to Raunchy«. After the release Jeppe Christensen joins the band and the band support acts such as The Haunted, Withering Surface, Barcode, Iniquity, Freak Kitchen and Jerkstore all over the country.

As the first Danish band ever Raunchy signs a contract with one of the world biggest metal labels Nuclear Blast Records. »Velvet Noise« is released in Europe and again the press results are extremely good. Raunchy plays at the well-known German festival Summerbreeze. Raunchy is then contacted by famed producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot, Glassjaw). He loves their music and wants to travel to Denmark to discuss the future with the band. Raunchy records a cover of WHAM's »Last Christmas« and a new song called »Decemberklar« for Denmark's National radio together with producer Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studios. The songs are a huge success in Denmark and they are played over and over again on the radio every day in December. Raunchy also performs live in the radio-studio and the performance is taped by Danish Television and broadcasted as well.

»Velvet Noise« is released in North America and the reviews are as good as in Europe. Raunchy's second album »Confusion Bay» is recorded in July and August again with producer Jacob Hansen (Mercenary, Fear my thoughts, Naerea etc.).

The year starts off with singer Lars Vognstrup leaving the band. Kasper Thomsen is recruited as the new front man, and in February »Confusion Bay« hits the streets. Again the reviews are overwhelming, and the band receives attention from almost every media around the globe. An animated video for the track »Watch Out« is made by the critically acclaimed director Anders Morgenthaler (»Princess«, »WulffMorgenthaler« etc.) and the video receives airplay on channels like VIVA+ and MTV2. The band perform a whole concert live on Danish National Radio, and in August the band perform at the much famed and legendary metal festival Wacken in front of crowd consisting of 4.000 anticipating fans. Several shows are played throughout the year in support of »Confusion Bay«, and as winter falls the band decides to begin writing their next album.

The band kicks off the year with a small "Escape from the rehearsal and writing room"-tour and supports Meshuggah in Denmark. Raunchy's third album "Death Pop Romance" is recorded in July and August with producer Jacob Hansen. The recording of »Death Pop Romance« marks the debut of Kasper Thomsen as a recording artist. Tue Madsen (Sick of it all, The Haunted, Himsa, Dagoba etc.) is brought in to mix the album, and Ziggy (Illdisposed, Mercenary etc.) takes care of the mastering. Raunchy inks a new album deal with up and coming label Lifeforce Records (Trivium, All that remains, Between the buried and me etc.) for the release of »Death Pop Romance«. The year ends with a smashing performance at the Danish Metal Awards in front of a sold-out venue in Copenhagen together with Entombed and As we fight. The show is broadcasted live on the Danish radio and it marks the band's third radio appearance.

»Death Pop Romance« hits the stores in February. Again the reviews are amazing, and the band receives many full score reviews all over the world. After only one week the band enters charts in Denmark and in Germany with »Death Pop Romance«. Raunchy supports legendary band Soulfly on all German dates, and the tour is very successful for Raunchy, performing in front of sold-out venues every night. Max Cavalera is very satisfied with Raunchy's performance on the tour, and he gives the band more stage time after only two shows. The band plays at the legendary With Full Force Festival in Leipzig together with acts like In Flames, Clawfinger, The Haunted and Evergreen Terrance in front of the band's biggest crowd to date consisting of 10.000 dedicated fans. 2006 became a very important year for Raunchy. The band continued to tour immensely in support of »Death Pop Romance« and with support gigs behind them for such acts as Ill Nino and Hatebreed, the band embarked on their first full-length European tour (Danish Dynamite Tour) in November and December together with friends Hatesphere and Volbeat, playing in countries like Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria.
