The Kings Of The Kilburn High Road

"The Kings of the Kilburn High Road" is an acclaimed play by Irish playwright Jimmy Murphy. It was first performed by Red Kettle Theatre Company at the Garter Lane Theatre, Waterford, Ireland in June 2000. The play deals with a group of young men who in the mid-1970s left their homes in the west of Ireland and took the boat to England in the hope of making their fortunes and returning home. The play begins twenty-five years later in a pub on the Kilburn High Road London.

One of the group, Jackie Falvin has died and so is the only one to make it home but in a coffin. The action takes place on the day of Jackie's funeral as the winners and losers of the group meet up to drink to Jackie Falvin's memory.

The play has been adapted for the screen as "Kings" by one of Ireland's most prolific film makers Derry-born Tom Collins ("Teenage Kicks - The Undertones, Hush a bye Baby, Bogwoman, Dragons Teeth, More than a Sacrifice, Aimhairgin, Combat d'une Mere"). It was released on September 21st, 2007 (Newgrange Films, Greenpark and de facto films), and is the first ever bi-lingual feature film in Irish and English. Other films in Irish are "Poitín" (62 minutes), "Cre Na Crille" (68 minutes).
