- Cairo-Dakar Highway
The Cairo-Dakar Highway is
Trans-African Highway 1 in thetranscontinental road network being developed by theUnited Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), theAfrican Development Bank (ADB), and theAfrican Union . The major part of the highway betweenTripoli andNouakchott has been constructed under a project of theArab Maghreb Union .The Cairo-Dakar Highway has a length of convert|8636|km|mi|0|lk=on and runs along the
Mediterranean coast ofNorth Africa , continuing down theAtlantic coast of North-West Africa. It is substantially complete except for a few kilometres on the Morocco-Mauritania border where there is currently only a desert track. It joins with theDakar-Lagos Highway to form a north-south route betweenRabat toMonrovia across theSahara and around the western extremity of the continent.ee also
