Notable_instruments =Calvin Richardson (born in Charlotte, North Carolina), is an American "
neo soul " andjazz singer &songwriter . In 1999 he released his first solo album Country Boy.Background
In the early 90's he was signed to Tommy Boy Records. He was the lead singer of the R&B group, Undacova. Undacova appeared on the song "Love Slave" from the soundtrack of the movie New Jersey Drive, released in
1995 . An album by the group never surfaced. In the mid 90's Calvin Richardson went solo and signed with
Universal Records . In1999 , his debut album, "Country Boy", was released, selling a 100.000 units. Due to poor sales, he was dropped by Universal. Shortly thereafter, he signed a contract withHollywood Records .In September 2003, he released his second album, "2:35 PM". The album was given that name because that was when Calvin's child was born. The reason that Calvin named the album as such was because, his girl gave birth to their son, Souljah, while Calvin was working on completing the album. With the events so intertwined, the title seemed fitting for his new album. It featured the minor R&B hit "
More Than A Woman " featuringAngie Stone . The single was nominated for aGrammy . The album also included hits such as "Keep On Pushin" & "You've Got Me High" featuring Slum Village. The album was produced by The Underdogs, Jake & Trevor, Young RJ andRaphael Saadiq .He then co-wrote and performed on the Grammy nominated album
Instant Vintage by Raphael Saadiq.According to Richardsons Myspace page, he is set to release third album, 'When Love Comes' in May 2008. The album is released following new single, 'Sang No More'.
Relationship to K-Ci & JoJo
Calvin is often cited incorrectly as the half brother of music act
Cedric "K-Ci" Hailey &Joel "Jo-Jo" Hailey ofJodeci . However, these rumors are incorrect. Calvin went to high school with the Hailey brothers and is married to their cousin, but he is not in fact related by blood.Despite this, Calvin and the Hailey brothers have done a great amount of work together. Calvin performed with the brothers as part of the gospel group Little Cedric and the Hailey Singers, and has done several recordings with K-Ci on his own solo tracks.
