Institut National de Radiodiffusion (IRN) begins experimental television in Belgium on
2 June 1953 , with the crowning ofElizabeth II of the United Kingdom . On31 October 1953 at 8.30 p.m.Andrée Rolin officially opens the channel, with the channel broadcasting 2 hours a day, 6 days a week.RTB
In 1960, Belgian Radio-television (RTB) replaces IRN.
In 1962, RTB introduced cable television in
Liège and Namur, and is rolled out across the country 1975.In 1973, RTB begins broadcasting in colour.
In 1976, a second channel is created, La Bis, and the decentralisation of the productions and the creation of the regional centres in
Liège andCharleroi .RTBF1
In 1977, RTB becomes "Radio-Télévision belge de la Communauté française RTBF", with the channel renamed "RTBF1".
RTBF La Une
In 1997, Parlement de la Communauté française makes RTBF an autonomous public company, with RTBF1 being renamed "RTBF La Une".In 2005, RTBF La Une renames again to just "La Une".
