Reese Trego Prosser (
May 18 1927 inMinneapolis -15 Jun 1996 ) was an American mathematician.He studied at
Harvard University (A.B., 1949) andUniversity of California at Berkeley underJohn L. Kelley (Ph.D. on the thesis "Structure ofOperator algebra s", 1955), [ [http://www.genealogy.ams.org/html/id.phtml?id=31973 mathematics geneaology] ] while working as numerical analyst atLawrence Radiation Laboratory (1953-55). He then joinedDuke University (instructor, 1955-56) andMassachusetts Institute of Technology (instructor, 1956). He also worked atLincoln Laboratory (1958-66), among others contributing an early study on routing inpacket switching computer networks, [ [http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/iel5/8159/23662/01088692.pdf Routing Procedures in Communications Networks] parts I and II, in IRE PGCS CS-10 No. 4 (1962), pp.322-329] before becoming associate professor of mathematics atDartmouth College (1966) and professor (1969).
