Jared Carpenter

Robert Jared Carpenter was the vice president of the Council of Republicans for Environmental Advocacy beginning in 2000. In 2007, he pleaded guilty to one count of income tax evasion. He and CREA president Italia Federici, who previously pleaded guilty on similar charges, had used CREA funds for personal use. He failed to file income tax statements for 2001 to 2003, during which time his accumulated income was $236,135. Carpenter, like Federici, was caught up in the FBI investigation of the Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal. He was sentenced to 45 days in a halfway house and four years probation. [cite news

At CREA, Carpenter served as an advisor to the United States Climate Change Science Program, participating in a planning workshop for scientists and stakeholders held December 2002 which contributed to the Strategic Plan for the Climate Change Science Program in 2003. Before his employment at CREA, Carpenter worked as the clerk for the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight's Subcommittee on Human Resources and Intergovernmental Relations. At his sentencing hearing his defense attorney argued for a lesser sentence for being "a footnote in the Abramoff investigation."
