Greenfield Center School is an independent day school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, located in Greenfield, Massachusetts. It has a population of about 140 children, and was founded in 1981.

The Greenfield Center School, was founded by the Northeast Foundation for Children. The School and the Foundation developed the Responsive ClassroomTM [ [http://www.responsiveclassroom.org Responsive Classroom: A practical approach to creating safe, joyful, and challenging elementary classrooms ] ] educational method. Part of this method is an approach to education which understands that children grow at different rates and need to balance physical, social, emotional, and intellectual learning. This educational philosophy fosters classroom communities in which children feel known, included, and self-confident enough to work hard and pursue meaningful intellectual and creative endeavors.

The Greenfield Center School works with educators and school districts from throughout the United States to help create long-term educational change through staff development workshops, consultations, and the production of resource materials. The unique combination of consulting, resource development and school establishes and promotes a model in which teachers teach teachers.

In 2001 the Greenfield Center School was accepted as a certified site of the national Coalition of Essential Schools. It is also the home of the New England Coalition of Progressive Educators (K-8th). The School separated from the Northeast Foundation for Children, and became a separate non-profit organization in 2002. The school purchased its building from the NEFC in 2004. The building was formerly known as the town of Greenfield's Abercrombie elementary school. [Orth, Adam. "Independence Day at Greenfield Center School." "Greenfield Recorder." April 12, 2004.]
