Lionel Copley

Lionel Copley

Sir Lionel Copley born 1648 (died 1963), was royal governor of the Maryland colony from 1692 through 1693. [Events that Changed America Through the Seventeenth Century, By John E. Findling, Frank W. Thackeray, p. 144.]

Copley attended Brasenose College. He was the first official royal governor appointed by the British crown after the colony was removed from the proprietary control of the Calvert family during the Glorious Revolution.
