Surgicel

Surgicel

Surgicel is a hemostat (blood-clot-inducing material) made of oxydized cellulose, manufactured by Johnson and Johnson's Ethicon subsidiary. It is used to control post-surgical bleeding. It is also used by some boxing cutmen to control bleeding.

Action

Surgicel is an acidic material which reacts with blood forming a reddish-brown pseudoclot which stops the bleeding. Furhermore, it has bactericidal activity against more than 20 bacterial species.Surgicel is absorbable.
