Arbortext is an
XML -based publishing system available from PTC. Arbortext was also the name of the privately-held company in Ann Arbor, Michigan that developed and maintained the software from 1989 to 2005.In 2004, Arbortext purchased the
Swindon (UK)-based Advent Publishing Systems, Ltd., creators of the publishing software Advent 3B2. This software is widely used for publishing of scientific, technical and medical journals (STM ) journals (such as theAstrophysical Journal , Cell, Nature, and Science).In July 2005, Arbortext was acquired by Massachusetts-based

There are many members of the Arbortext family, including:
*Arbortext Editor: A
WYSIWYG SGML /XML editor .
*Arbortext Styler: CreatesXML -based stylesheets.
*Arbortext Architect: Creates Document Type Definitions (DTDs) and Schemas.
*Arbortext Digital Media Publisher: AssemblesXML /SGML content, converts it toPDF ,HTML , etc., and transfers it toCD ,DVD ,flash drive , etc.
*Arbortext Publishing Engine: Server which automatically assemblesXML /SGML content and converts it toPDF ,HTML , Word, CHM, etc.
* Arbortext Advanced Print Publisher (formerly 3B2): CreatesXML ,SGML or bespoke markup based stylesheets, automatically publishes content, and enables manual modifications of layout after initial automated composition.History
In the mid-1990s the GUI for the Arbortext Editor (then called "Adept Editor") was ported from Solaris to the Galaxy Application Environment in order to more readily support non-Unix operating systems, in particular
Microsoft Windows andIBM OS/2 . (Galaxy--produced by Visix Software--was one of many PIGUI packages.) When Visix ceased support of Galaxy Arbortext purchased source code rights and maintained the Galaxy interface along with its application software. Arbortext has since converted the Windows version to the native Microsoft interface but continued to support Galaxy in the Solaris version for backwards compatibility reasons. The PTC copyrights still mention Galaxy.ee also
