Express passenger train

Express passenger train

An express passenger train is fast passenger train usually providing a service between major cities. Unlike slower commuter trains an express passenger train only stops at a few, if any, intermediate stations. A well-known example of an express passenger train is the Flying Scotsman operating between London and Edinburgh, a distance of 392 miles covered by modern trains in about 4.5 hours.

Express passenger trains are often prestigious and feature contemporary styling, as with the streamlining of the M-10000 trains used on the Union Pacific Railroad during the 1930s.
