George Shilling

George Shilling

George Shilling is a British musician, record producer, composer and recording engineer.

George Shilling is the son of Eric Shilling, one-time singer with the English National Opera and actress Erica Johns. His first notable success was achieved at the age of 21, engineering the Worldwide hit "The Only Way is Up" by Yazz and the Plastic Population, an offshoot of the Coldcut organisation, subsequently the founders of the Ninja Tune label. Production credits include the Soup Dragons' album Lovegod which included their cover of the Rolling Stones hit, "I'm Free", and the most accomplished of the three "My Life Story" albums, "The Golden Mile", but it is mainly in the field of engineering that he has made his mark on the music industry, having worked with artists as diverse as Bernard Butler, The Fall, Teenage Fanclub, Steve Winwood and the popular light opera duo Operababes. He studied 'cello briefly at the Royal College of Music, and is a fine keyboard player and percussionist. He has composed a significant amount of material for English down-tempo band Sundae Club and has co-written a track recorded by the French singer Nolwenn Leroy on her 2005 hit album Histoires Naturelles, which was produced by French legend Laurent Voulzy.
