Cornelius John "Neal" Bolin, Jr. (
December 1 ,1924 -July 2 ,2007 ), was a retired Democratic state court judge in Shreveport, the seat ofCaddo Parish in northwesternLouisiana . He served from 1968 to 1990.Bolin was born to C.J. Bolin, Sr. (1887-1973), and the former Annie Walker (1895-1979) in Mansfield, the seat of
De Soto Parish . The family moved to Shreveport, and Bolin graduated in 1941 fromC.E. Byrd High School . He served thereafer in theUnited States Navy duringWorld War II . After the war, Bolin attendedLouisiana State University inBaton Rouge and received hislaw degree in 1951. He practiced law in Shreveport for six years until he was appointed an assistant district attorney for Caddo Parish, a position that he held for eleven years.Bolin was elected judge of the First Judicial District, Division "C" in Caddo Parish, on
August 17 ,1968 and was re-elected unopposed in that position until his retirement. During his tenure, he served twice as Chief Judge. After retirement, he continued to serve the court as a temporary judge for at least two stints.Bolin was an active member of the American, Louisiana, and Shreveport bar associations, the
American Legion , and theKiwanis Club , having served as club president in 1972.Bolin died in Shreveport after a long battle with an illness. He was survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, the former Madeline Morvan (born ca. 1928), and their six children: Madeline Ann Nance; John H. Bolin; Adele Hartrick and her husband (now divorced), Glenn Hartrick; Jeanise Mulcahy and her husband, Patrick Mulcahy; Robert Bolin and his wife, Shelley Bolin, and Martin Bolin, and eleven grandchildren.
Services were held on
July 7 ,2007 , at Osborn Funeral Home. Interment was in Forest ParkCemetery in Shreveport.Chief District Court Judge Charles Scott said that Bolin "was a good mentor to many of the judges of the courthouse. He was a good friend and a good family man. He served the community very well, and we are saddened by his death."
