The five
Ordered in 1917 to Mitsubishi in Nagasaki, launched
10 February 1920 , and completed29 January 1921 , "Tama" participated in theBattle of the Aleutian Islands and theBattle of the Komandorski Islands and spent most of the early part ofWorld War II in northern waters. It was later used as a fast transport and made numerous sorties toRabaul and other locations in theSolomon Islands . Afterwards, it was at theBattle of Leyte Gulf in thePhilippines , and was torpedoed by USN submarines northeast of the Philippines on20 December 1944 .;

It was later at theNaval Battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands and theBattle of Leyte Gulf in thePhilippines . It was sunk by USN carrier-based aircraft west of Manila on20 March 1944 .References
