Bichuette, de Pinna & Trajano, 2008"Glaphyropoma" is a
genus ofcatfish es (order Siluriformes) of the familyTrichomycteridae . It includes twospecies , "G. rodriguesi" and "G. spinosum".cite journal|journal=Neotropical Ichthyology|volume=6|issue=3|pages=301-306|year=2008|title=A new species of "Glaphyropoma": the first subterranean copionodontine catfish and the first occurrence of opercular odontodes in the subfamily (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae)|first=Maria Elina|last=Bichuette|coauthors=de Pinna, Mario César Cardoso; Trajano, Eleonora]The single synapomorphy proposed for "Glaphyropoma" is the marked narrowing of the first hypobranchial, giving the hypobranchial a slender shape.
"G. rodriguesi" grows to about 5.1
centimetre s (2.0 in) SL and originates from theMucujê River , a tributary ofParaguaçu River inBrazil .FishBase species|genus=Glaphyropoma|species=rodriguesi|year=2007|month=July]"G. spinosum" is known to grow as large as 5.8 cm (2.3 in) SL. It is known from subterranean waters in the
Diamantina Plateau of theBahia State in central northeastern Brazil. This is the first-known troglomorphic species in the subfamilyCopionodontinae . These fish live in quartzitic caves formed byerosion byrain . The water depth in the creek where the catfish live varies mostly between 10 and 50 cm (4 and 20 in), with moderate current and some spotty accummulation of plant debris where fish are found foraging.References
