Japanese battleship Tosa

"Tosa" (Named for Tosa Province, Japan) was a planned battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy and was to be the lead ship of the and . Armor was reduced in favor of another turret. "Tosa" was the first Japanese warship with an inclined main deck towards the bow.

Construction

"Tosa" was accepted and ordered in the 1918 Fiscal Year, laid down at Nagasaki by Mitsubishi on 2 February 1920, and was launched on 12 December 1921. The ship was never completed in accordance with the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922; construction stopped on 5 February 1922.

Fate

"Tosa" was towed to Kure Naval Base in August 1922 and in June 1924 was used for testing of various explosives in Hiroshima Bay. On 9 February 1925, "Tosa" was sunk by naval gunfire as a target vessel in Bungo Strait.
