The Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community is a reservation for the Pima and Maricopa Indian tribes that is in the east-north east part of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, it completely borders the cities of Scottsdale and Mesa.
The reservation was created in June 1879 by United States President Rutherford B. Hayes. Over 7,000 people are enrolled as members of the community. [http://www.saltriver.pima-maricopa.nsn.us/community/index.htm]
It is most known for indian gaming, it has two casinos on it off the SR 101 freeway.
