At the time, most of his customers wereRoman Catholic who had to abstain from eating meat on Friday. His invention (the fish sandiwch), served with cheese and tartar sauce, is now served at McDonald's restaurants throughout the world.At his peak, Lou Groen owned 43 stores in the Ohio and northern Kentucky region, eventually selling them back to the McDonald's corporation. His son Paul currently operates a number of stores in the northern Kentucky region, some inherited from his father. His grandson is currently undergoing training to take over the family business in the near future.
