- Abraham Shuker
Abraham Shuker (
July 6 ,1848 —February 11 ,1909 ) was an Englishcricket er. He was a right-handed batsman who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire. He was born in Stockton and died in Tunstall.Shuker's first-class debut came during the 1874 season, in a game against Lancashire, which saw Shuker put on 41 runs from the opening order, and Derbyshire prevail in a nine-wicket win, in spite of a ten-wicket match haul from Lancashire's Alexander Watson. Shuker played in one further first-class match during the season, and subsequently on a frequent basis throughout the latter half of the 1870s.
With the close of one decade came the start of one in which Shuker was determined to keep his place in the opening order. Shuker would maintain what was, at times, an impressive turnover, scoring one half-century during the 1880 season, however, with consistency the key as he was coming to the end of his first-class career, he was given the opportunity to appear further down the order on occasion, though during 1882, his final first-class season, in which he played one game, he was put back into an opening position - this time with team-mate
Duncan Johnston partnering him.External links
