The Canon EF 100-300 f/5.6L, introduced in 1987, is a telephoto zoom lens. The lens is based on the EF Lens Mount and will work with all film and digital EOS cameras that support this mount. The lens is classified as an Canon L lens because it contains one Ultra-Low Dispersion and one Synthetic Fluorite lens element. This is one of the first L series lenses made for the EF Lens Mount and it is one of the cheapest Canon L lenses to acquire today with a street price between 200-400 USD depending on condition.
This lens features an Arc Form Drive focusing system, which is commom on the older EF lenses. It has an internal focusing mechanism, and the focus distance can be viewed through a small window on the lens. The zoom mechanism is operated via a push-pull system, and the aperture is an electromagnetically driven 8 blade style. The minimum focusing distance for this lens is a relatively far 1.5 meters.
