The Opposition is an American band from Barrington, Illinois (a northwest suburb of Chicago). The band was conceived in 2004 by four friends with a love for music. Together Colin Byerly (vocals), Jeff Kranz (guitar), Ryan Moody (bass guitar) and Kevin Nolan (drums) compose The Opposition. The band plays numerous local shows at popular Chicago venues Elbo Room, Logan Square Auditorium, The Original Mother's and Beat Kitchen. They had several interviews on the alternative, Chicago-based radio station Q101.

2004-2007: The College Years

Formerly known as Aberdeen, the band started off slowly because Kranz, Moody and Nolan attended Purdue University. Byerly stayed in Chicago so he could study to become an Emergency medical technician. The band was only able to practice during college and Byerly traveled to Purdue several times for shows and practices. The band recorded their first songs: "American Gelatin," "You Broke it You Bought It" and "The Rocketeer." After Nolan graduated college in December 2006, they changed their name to The Opposition and were signed to Pawnstar Records.

The Opposition's first large Chicago debut was on Dec. 30, 2006 at Logan Square Auditorium. Popular bands such as Tonight The Prom, Liftpoint and Beatallica joined them for the "Eve of the Eve" show. Things continued to pick up after Kranz graduated college in June 2007.

Today, Tomorrow and Beyond

In the summer 2007, The Opposition started to play local shows once, sometimes twice a week. They spent their free time practicing, booking even more shows and recording. The band also continues to write new music and re-record their older songs. On March 24, 2007, they made their first music video for their song, "Truffle Shuffle," which was recorded live from the Q101 studio. The video debuted on YouTube on March 27, 2007 and has had more than 800 plays in three months. With the support of about five dedicated fans, Pawnstar Productions and other local bands like Tonight The Prom, The Opposition will continue to rock the local Chicago music scene.

Musical Influences

Bands like Incubus, Led Zeppelin, Blink-182, Fall Out Boy and Taking Back Sunday are some of their musical influences.
