"Girl You Know It's True" is a song by Milli Vanilli and was the debut release from their album "Girl You Know It's True". It peaked in the UK charts at #3 in 1988 and peaked at #2 in the US. The song is most famous for the "Girl, You Know It's..." lyric skipping and repeating during a Milli Vanilli concert in Connecticut, revealing a case of lip synching during the performance and setting off a wave of controversy for the group.

Background

Many people do not know that Milli Vanili's rendition of the song is a cover version. It was originally sung in 1987 by an obscure group called Numarx. [ [http://www.crapfromthepast.com/millivanilli/babydontforgetmynumber.htm Milli Vanilli: Baby Don't Forget My Number ] ] The original version is different in the fact that it was not as 'fun' and marketable as the Milli Vanilli version and that the original spoken intro was not on the radio mix, that came from the extended mix.

In popular culture

Milli Vanilli made a cameo appearance performing the song in an episode of "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3", based on the actual video game as seen Saturday mornings on NBC. The episode titled "Kootie Pie Rocks", which aired with "Do the Koopa" on October 27, 1990 tells the tale of Princess Toadstool buying tickets to a Milli Vanilli show in New York City. She invites Mario, Luigi and Toad to the concert. All this while Cheatsy and Kootie Pie are outside at the window listening to what they're saying. Later, Milli Vanilli are kidnapped by Cheatsy and Kootie Pie as ordered by King Koopa and are brought back to their castle. Kootie Pie turns them both into accountants and then back after a backup band of Mario, Luigi, the Princess and Toad (in disguise) arrive. Her plan is foiled after they runaway free. They all return to New York and perform a concert for everyone in the end.
