Location and transportation
Volimes is located about 30 km northwest of the town of Zakynthos, northwest of
Macherado and north ofLaganas . Volimes is linked with a road connecting to the southern and the eastern part of the island.About Volimes
Volimes is situated on the northernmost part of the island and is in the northernmost part of the
Vrachiona mountains. Its area are hilly and contains a few forests, the mountains are to the western part. Farmlands covers the area, its main production are cattle, fruits and vegetables and several other crops. The island's northernmost pointCape Schinari is to the north.History
Volimes was ruled by the Venetians until the
Napolenic Wars when it was controlled and ruled by the French until the British invasion near the end, theRussia ns and the Ottoman Turks also ruled during the wars, though theSeptinsular Republic was autonomous. Keri and the rest of the Ionian Islands formed a part of theUnited States of the Ionian Islands until 1864 which marked the end of the non-Greek rule, it finally ceded toGreece .After
World War II and theGreek Civil War , it was partially rebuilt, almost every building in the village were completely destroyed in the1953 Ionian Earthquake , afterwards, the village were rebuilt by the late-1950s and 1960 to rebuilt everything and at the time connected with asphalt. More pavement was accessed in the late 20th century. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium.
