* Premiership player 1904,05Gerald Brosnan (14 August 1877) was an
Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the VFL. He played as a key position forward and had an accurate left foot kick.Brosnan made his league debut in 1900 after previously attempting to sign up with both Geelong and Essendon. He had been playing with Ballarat before he signed up with Fitzroy. In just his second season he topped their goalkicking charts with 33 majors.
He became captain of the club in 1903 and led them to the Grand Final where they lost by 2 points. In the dying seconds he had a chance to win the game after marking a pass from teammate
Percy Trotter thirty metres out from goal. The final bell rang as he took the kick and he could only manage a behind. Fitzroy however won the premiership the next two seasons meaning that when Brosnan left the captaincy at the end of 1905 he had led the club to the Grand Final in each of his three seasons in charge. In 1911 he became coach of the shortlived
University Football Club . He was coach for 54 games, winning only 2 of them.External links
