The Association for India's Development, Inc. (AID) is a voluntary non-profit organization, founded in
1991 , committed to promoting sustainable, equitable and just development inIndia , by working withgrassroots organization s in India. AID supports and initiates activities in various interconnected aspects of society includingeducation ,labor rights ,natural resources ,health , women's empowerment and the general concept of social justice. Unlike similar NGOs, AID has been outspoken in its criticism of right-wing organisations in India.Legal status of AID in the USA
AID, Inc. was registered with the US Federal Government as a 501(C)(3) non-profit charitable corporation in September
2003 . Before September 2003, AID was registered as unincorporated association (with a different Tax-ID). AID accounts are audited by an independent Certified Public Accountant, as per IRS regulations. AID offers to provide further documents and information on request, or for the cost of copying and postage, this information can be obtained from the Secretary of State.As of
2005 , in theUSA , had 42 chapters such as AID Dallas [http://www.aiddallas.org (www.aiddallas.org)] and about 500 volunteers. InIndia it had 4 chapters, 6 full-time activists (Jeevan Saathis), supported 500 projects (of which more than 100 are ongoing projects), covered 18 states in India, and had made visits to most of the project sites.Reaction to the Tsunami of the

2004 Indian Ocean earthquake , of which thetsunami hit the eastern coast of southern India, in particularTamil Nadu , AID had already been working in these areas.
