June 29 ,1951 ) is a British novelist and academic.Academic career
Born in
Kingston, Jamaica , Duncker attended school inEngland and, after a period spent working inGermany , read English atNewnham College, Cambridge . She earned adoctorate fromSt Hugh's College, Oxford .She has taught at the
University of Wales, Aberystwyth and theUniversity of East Anglia . In January 2007, she was appointed Professor of Contemporary Writing at theUniversity of Manchester .
