BattleTanks II features three tank types to choose from, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
There are many ways to win a war in BattleTanks II. If you like being the commander of your army, you can sit back away from the action, directing your army's actions strategically. However, if you prefer action, there's nothing stopping you from helping your tanks out and join the fight. You can make sneak attacks, massive assaults, try weakening your enemy with artillery, and much more.
Popularity
After taking 1st place in the Caiman game programming competition, BattleTanks II became a fairly popular freeware arcade tank game, and the free download quickly spread to dozens of websites. At the time of this writing, the game has over 100,000 downloads on the original (Caiman) website alone, and continues to be downloaded roughly 700 - 1000 times per week[ [http://www.caiman.be/gamestats.asp?nr=2349 BattleTanks II Download Statistics] ] .]BattleTanks II received very good ratings from various reviews and the user rating at download.com averages 4 out of 5 stars[ [http://www.download.com/BattleTanks-II/3000-7503_4-10660827.html?cdlPid=10660828 BattleTanks II at Download.com] ] .] Copyright Violations & Illegally Modified Versions
In 2007, someone going by the name of "John Hoffman", entirely unrelated to the developer or development of BattleTanks II, illegally (in violation of copyright) "sold" the rights of an illegally modified version of BattleTanks II to be published by a game download and publishing company "GamesTrend", claiming to be the co-developer. If taken to court, "John Hoffman" could be fined up to $250,000 for the infringement.
The author of the game (John Judnich) requested that GamesTrend remove their modified version of the game (which displayed text such as "Distributed by GamesTrend with kind permission of Mr. John Hoffman"), which they did for their website, but their various distributions of the game to download sites like download.com still contain the modified version.
GamesTrend is at least partially responsible for this violation since they failed to verify that "John Hoffman" had any copyrights to the game whatsoever when buying it - in fact had they simply started the game and clicked the "Credits" button, they would have clearly seen that all copyrights of the game are exclusively owned by John Judnich.
