National Urban Policy and New Community Development Act of 1970

National Urban Policy and New Community Development Act of 1970

The Urban Growth and New Community Development Act (Renamed National Urban Policy and New Community Development Act of 1970, Pub.L. 91-609, title VII, 1970-12-31, 84 Stat. 1791, 42 U.S.C. § 4501 et seq.) is a statute enacted by the United States Congress in 1970[1].

The Act provided federal support for the development of new towns by private developers through the department of Housing and Urban Development. Fourteen of these "New Towns" were established with HUD funds before the project was scrapped in 1978[2].
