bonuses = The Prix Quincey is a Group 3 flat horse race inFrance open tothoroughbred s which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) at Deauville Racecourse, and it takes place annually in late August.First run in 1919, the race was originally titled the Prix de la Plage Fleurie. It was named after the Plage Fleurie, a stretch of the
Normandy coastline upon whichDeauville is situated. Initially the race was contested over 1,600 metres, but in its second year this was increased to 2,000 metres. It was immediately reverted to its former length in 1921, and the distance has remained unchanged ever since. The present title, the Prix Quincey, was introduced in 1925. This honours the memory of the
Comte de Quincey , an eminent member of the "Société d'Encouragement", who died the previous year. Since the end ofWorld War I the Comte de Quincey had served as the chief steward of this organisation, which was then a main governing body of French racing. During this time he instigated such decisions as the merger with the "Société des Courses de Deauville" and the creation of thePrix de l'Arc de Triomphe .During
World War II the Prix Quincey was cancelled twice, in 1940 and 1944. For the remainder of the war, while its regular venue was closed, the race was switched temporarily between Longchamp (1941–42, 1945) and Maisons-Laffitte (1943). It has otherwise continually taken place at Deauville. The fastest winning time in the race is 1m 32.8s, recorded by
Penny's Gold in 2000.Records
