Rajpuri

Rajpuri is a village situated at a distance of 4km from Murud Janjira Taluka, in the Raigad district of India. The village is situated on the inlet of Arabian Sea.

People

The village population is above 4000 people.The most common community surnames are RAWOOT, SIDDIQUE, HADADDI, FAHIM, DAWRE and ADMANE. The main religions are Islam and Hinduism and all live in Communal Harmony.

Education

There are three Schools-1) Urdu Medium,2) Marathi Medium (Rajpuri-koliwada)3) Dr. A.R. Undre English Medium school.

Janjira Fort - Rajpuri

Take a sail boat to Murud-Janjira Fort from Rajpuri Jetty and you will be able to explore a 500 years old fort in the sea. You could see the splendor of this fort even today. There are a few majestic cannons, which have their own names, and remind you of the many ships they must have destroyed in wars.

Spend your time gleefully lapping amidst the waves and the lush coconut and palm trees, not forgetting the tranquility of the setting sun.

Getting there

There are many ways of getting there:

* Air: The nearest airport is Mumbai.

* Rail: Nearest railroad is Roha, 122 km.

* Sea: There are regular ferry services available from Ferry Warf up to Rewas (23 km) starting at 6 in the morning through 6 pm. The service is suspended during the monsoons. After Rewas, one needs to take the road transport. There are also regular catamarans from Gateway of India, operated up to Mandwa.

* Road: Murud is 165 km and about 5 hours driving distance from Mumbai. One can travel up to Panvel and then take the road that passes through the Karnala Bird Sanctuary up to Pen. You have to travel further to Alibaug or Roha.

Best Time

Murud has a coastal climate and can be visited at any time of the year, avoiding the monsoons.
