Neville Hope (born April 23, 1958) was a fictional character from the television series "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet". Portrayed by Kevin Whately, Neville featured in every series from 1983-2005.

Neville is constantly under the thumb of his formidable wife Brenda. He constantly worries about the welfare of his wife and three children, and his heart in Newcastle. He married young and has no regrets about it, although in the third series he is clearly suffering from a mid life crisis. For example: Neville opens the dialogue in Series 1, Epidode 1 by saying "Dearest Brenda". He is in fact, standing on the deck of a cross channel ferry, en route to Germany, writing a postcard to his wife. Throughout Series 1, Neville continues to write home or phone home at regular intervals.

Neville is sensitive and naive, he is a geordie lad at heart. His dad died when he was a "bairn", and his mother is now old and relies on him. Constantly hen pecked, every decision Nevile makes revolves around Brenda's opinions about it. He is very close to most of his pals, mainly Dennis and Bomber, whilst he shows annoyance at others, particularly Barry (when he becomes exceedingly boring), and Oz who is tactless and frustratingly dense.

Neville was the first to announce his voyage back to Britain in the first series. In fact he is a man who is never satisfied. The grass is always greener on the other side for Neville, particularly in the Germany years where he experienced many tricky situations such as receiving a heart shaped tattoo after a drunken night out enscribed with the words of an unknown woman called Lotte. He was also accused of assaulting a young woman in Germany, (this was later proven otherwise), and consequently locked up in prison.

As he gets older, Neville is less-intimidated and starts to stand on his own two feet and think for himself, much to Brenda's discomfort.
