- Baso (island)
Baso is the middle town between
Bukittinggi andPayakumbuh ,West Sumatra . It is only 15 kilometers east of Bukittingi.In the history of West Sumatra this town was the transit and junction town of Payakumbuh, Bukittinggi and Batusangkar. This town was known also as the most important farmers trading and crops collection point in West Sumatra. Dutch has built railway station, market, and other supporting facilities like
post office , bank, even one of biggest teacher school in West Sumatra (PGRI).In early of 70 as the age of automobile (replacing steam train and horse wagon) begun in Sumatra, this town has slowly lost its strategic position as transit point.
In recent years Baso only grown as just a ribbon town with small shop and it`s local community service . The famous Baso farmers market now only left as history. In early of 90 most of its heritage such old
train station , old market, and Dutch buildings has replaced by semi modern buildings.
